Stephan Urwyler, guitarist - born Zurich, Switzerland - he has composed
partitures for Symphony Orchestra and Steelband and many others. He is
featured on the City West Quartet's latest CD, alongside Tim Hagens and
Ron Mcclure - "New York Edition".
This album, witch is a compilation of Stephan's composition, fixes an
eye upon the steelpan- played by Wilbert "Junior" Gill, born in London,
England.- he has performed in and around the jazz scene over the years.
Since 6 years, Junior is member of the Billy Cobham band. He currently
leads the Wilbert Gill Steelpan School in Zurich, specialising in
steeldrum; and is the founder of the swiss national steel orchestra.
Toghether, the musicians create a versatile mood. the music of Urwyler,
"caribeye", is enhanced by the inclusion of the steeldrum's voice,- a
vision enhanced by colorful sounds.
This ambientel live recording describes the real situation and projects the spirit of the moment.
...fortunaly Cobham has a secret weapon: steel pan expert Junior Gill.
Gill, a Londoner now resident (like Cobham) in Switzerland, has a shure
touch and magical sound. Amid the familiar fusion gestures of squiggly
synths and tortured guitar solos, Gill's "lead pan" gives the band
heart, gettinmg a warm anf full-blooded expression out a cunnigly
crafted sheet of metal....25. Februar 2008 Guardian, Ronnie Scott's,
